My Writing

Last year I ticked something of my bucket list, I published my first novel (yay!).  I made the business decision to self-publish, because I wanted to challenge myself to build a platform and a brand as a writer. The project exceeded my expectations. 

I am working on my next book, Solomon's Secrets. This time I want to publish it bigger, better and sexier than last year!

The Pitch

The original pitch was not just about me and my books. I would like to showcase Bristol talent by hosting a launch event for the book at a local independent venue, involving a local theatre company, a local band and local food producers. However, this proved to be ambitious.

Reflecting on the process now, I’m not afraid to admit that I’d bitten off more than I can chew.

I’ve had to examine what’s really important and what’s sustainable and I’ve made some decisions.

This started with a book, Solomon’s Secrets. Lovely as it would be to have a big ambitious event, it’s diverted my attention. I need to focus on the book.

I went into Foyles bookshop recently and asked about putting some copies of my book in the store. The moment I told them I’d published through Amazon they didn’t want to know. It’s been dawning on me that if I want to get my book in bookshops I need to think again.

I’ve made some enquiries about using a professional publishing house in Bristol, who support and advise authors and can help me to build my author platform. There’s only so much I can do alone.

The publisher is Silverwood Books, and if I publish through them my book will go on the shelves of independent bookshops as well as Amazon.

I believe that investing in the book from the start will put me on the map as an author. The problem is, this isn’t a cheap option.

Therefore, I’m reducing the fund to £1,000 and extending the deadline to the end of July.

If I exceed the goal, I can then plan a scaled down launch event.

For those of you who have already pledged for tickets, if the event doesn’t go ahead I can instruct Fundsurfer not to take the money as I may not be able to supply the reward you want, or I can talk to people individually about another equivalent value reward.

Whatever happens, I will still have some sort of a launch event (any excuse for a party), but I’ll arrange it separately from the crowdfund.

If I raise £2,000 I can put on a show and get some local creative talent to entertain my guests at a launch event.
