World Kid Lit - 10 Years of Reading the World!

It's the 10th year of World Kid Lit: an international reading project with a global impact!

About us

World Kid Lit is a non-profit organization that aims to bring diverse, inclusive, global literature into the hands and onto the bookshelves of young people.

We work as a community and in partnership with other organizations to support an antiracist education for young people, fostering empathy, intercultural understanding and global literacy.

About this project

We provide free resources showcasing the best writing, illustration and translation for young people from around the globe. Over the course of nearly a decade, we have featured books from over 180 countries, in English and in translation from over 100 languages!

As we approach World Kid Lit Month this September - our 10th anniversary - we are fundraising to set the World Kid Lit ship sailing into the next decade, and for three projects aimed at promoting international reading, and diverse global representation in publishing for young people.

World Kid Lit CIC (fundraising goal £1000/$1000)

The first strand of our World Kid Lit mission is to support young people’s awareness of and access to diverse, inclusive, global literature, especially literature in translation, as well as English-language texts and authors from every continent of the world. We do this all year round by providing * free * resources, book reviews, creator interviews and recommended book lists on our website and on social media, with an extra special splurge every September, for World Kid Lit Month!

As a registered community interest company, we have annual overheads including our statutory reporting and accounts, insurance and other adminstrative expenses. Please help us to keep our wonderful World Kid Lit ship sailing by becoming a regular donor or buying us a coffee!

£10/$10 - buy us a coffee! We can meet this fundraising goal with 100 supporters - please ask your friends to help!

£20/$20 - buy a World Kid Lit 10th anniversary mug, or tote bag to carry your lovely books in!

World Kid Lit in Schools (fundraising goal £1000/$1000)

The second strand of our mission is to support the education and library sectors to enable greater access for young people to global literature, and to positive experiences of translation, language learning and multilingual creativity.

Besides our free online resources, we also bring World Kid Lit into schools with events and free book bundles. Here's how you can support this work and increase our impact:

£50/$50 pays for a school to receive a Read the World Starter Bundle: 5 books from 5 continents of the world

£100/$100 pays for a school to receive a Read the World 10-Book Bundle: 10 books from 5 continents of the world

£120/$120 funds a Read the World assembly and a starter book bundle, inspiring young people to read beyond their borders and broaden their horizons

£250/$250 pays for a Read the World workshop morning at a primary or secondary school, including an assembly, a creative workshop, and a starter book bundle

£400/$400 pays for a Read the World workshop day, including three workshops and a starter book bundle

Schools' International Reading Award (fundraising goal £1000/$1000)

We're thrilled to introduce our second project aimed at bringing inclusive, international books into schools and libraries. A drum roll please .... for our Schools' International Reading Award, now entering its second year!

£50/$50 pays for an individual sponsorship of our annual prize rewarding school projects that promote international reading for pleasure

£500/$500 pays for a corporate sponsorship of our Schools' International Reading Award

Cost breakdown:

£900 judges and administrator costs

£100 packing and postage cost of sending out prize book bundles

The books are generously donated by our lovely publisher sponsors!

Broadening Representation Research & Development Grants (fundraising goal £1000/$1000)

The third strand of our mission is to support the English-language publishing landscape to publish more globally inclusive and diverse literature for young people, including commissioning new translations, especially from languages and regions of the world less well represented in translation, and by authors, illustrators and translators from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in publishing.

We are planning to launch a new research and development grant to allow book reviewers, translators and publishing professionals to explore under-resourced publishing markets and present them to the English-reading public and to potential publishers.

£150/$150 pays for a reseach and development grant enabling a recipient to explore writing and/or illustration for young people from an under-represented country, region or language
