I Am Not Alone — Help Us Build a Project That Gives Survivors a Voice

I Am Not Alone — проект, собирающий анонимные истории переживших домашнее насилие для создания практической поддержки и программ восстановления.

About Me

My name is Tatiana, and I have been living in Crete, Greece, for the past ten years.

I am an artist and designer creating handmade pieces from natural and recycled materials. Creativity had always been part of my life as a hobby, but after experiencing domestic violence, it became much more than that. It became one of the ways I rebuilt my life.

Over time, this journey of healing grew into a profession, allowing me to rediscover myself, regain confidence, and build a new life doing what I truly love. Today, I create handmade art inspired by nature, hoping that every piece carries a little of the hope that creativity once gave me.

During that journey, I realized that while many organizations offer emergency support, very little is known about what actually helps people recover socially after leaving abusive relationships. What gives them strength? What helps them start over? Which kinds of support truly make a difference months or even years later?

Those questions became the foundation of this project.

About the Project

I Am Not Alone is a social initiative inspired by personal experience.

The project explores domestic violence in migrant families and multicultural relationships, where one partner has moved to another country. In these situations, survivors often face additional challenges such as language barriers, immigration status, unfamiliar legal systems, financial dependence, cultural differences, and social isolation.

Our goal is to better understand what helps survivors rebuild their lives and transform those insights into practical support for others.

The project will begin with a pilot study in migrant communities in Greece, using anonymous online surveys. This is not because the project is limited to Greece, but because every meaningful initiative has to start somewhere. The survey and research methodology are being developed from the beginning so they can later be adapted for use in other countries and migrant communities around the world.

This campaign is not simply about creating a non-profit organization.

It is about building a project that begins by listening, understanding, and learning from real experiences. We believe there is no single path to recovery, and our goal is not to tell people how they should rebuild their lives, but to better understand what has already helped others and make that knowledge available to people facing similar challenges anywhere in the world.

Funding Goal

Our first fundraising goal is €3,600.

These funds will allow us to:

  • register the non-profit organization;
  • complete the development of a professional online survey and data analysis system;
  • build the project's website;
  • launch the pilot survey.

This is the first milestone of a much larger project, and every contribution helps us move one step closer to making it a reality.

Project Location

The project is based in Crete, Greece, where the non-profit organization will be established and the pilot phase will be coordinated.

Rewards

As a token of gratitude for supporting this project, I would like to share something very personal.

For me, creativity became an important part of my own healing journey. Creating handmade pieces helped me rebuild my life step by step. Today, I would like to share some of that work with the people who choose to support this project.

Depending on your level of support, you may choose one of the following rewards:

  • Handmade souvenirs created from natural materials collected on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Emotional Dolls — my original handmade textile dolls, each featuring an inspiring quote.
  • A custom textile portrait, individually created from a photograph you provide.
  • A private one-day trip by car across Crete, visiting some of the island's most beautiful and authentic places (by prior arrangement).

If you choose a physical reward, I will gladly ship it anywhere in the world. You may also choose to have it sent directly as a gift to someone you care about.

Every piece is handmade with care and created especially for this project.

Team

At this stage, we are a small team of like-minded people, each of whom has personal experience with domestic violence or its consequences. This shared experience is one of the reasons why this project exists and why we believe it is important to listen to survivors before offering solutions.

As the project grows, we plan to build a multidisciplinary team that includes researchers, legal professionals, psychologists, sociologists, volunteers, and partner organizations. Together, we want to ensure that the project combines lived experience with scientific research and practical expertise, creating support that is both evidence-based and truly relevant to people's needs.

Risks and Challenges

Launching a new non-profit organization and a research project always involves challenges.

The biggest risks are limited initial funding, building partnerships, and reaching enough participants for the pilot survey.

To address these challenges, the project is designed to grow step by step. The first fundraising goal covers only the essential foundation needed to launch the pilot phase. As the project develops, we will continue seeking grants, institutional partnerships, volunteers, and community support.

This gradual approach allows the project to remain realistic, transparent, and sustainable while building trust with the people and communities it hopes to serve.

Thank you for believing that recovery begins with being heard.
