An update for Britten Saint Nicolas: A film celebrating live and virtual music making

    Jul 6 2021

    Dear Supporters,

I can't quite believe that six months has passed since your generosity enabled us to release our short film as a pre-Christmas reminder of the joy and power of live music – but here we are, somehow at the beginning of July...

So, with many apologies for our silence, I am writing now to let you know that this project has in fact been paused for a number of reasons. The first is funding: the funds that we raised for the initial phase of the project covered all of the costs of the project, with a small amount (approx £300) remaining, which enabled us to put something towards our administrative costs which had otherwise been unpaid. The events at the beginning of the year, with the third national lockdown being announced in early January, caused a lot of extra work for the team, who would otherwise have been focussing on raising additional funds for the second phase of the project – the time remaining was not sufficient to secure the funds that were needed, and we were not in a position to commit to taking the project further without having a significant portion of the funding in place.

The second main reason is that following a discussion with the creative minds on the project, it was felt that the first phase of the project actually achieved rather beautifully what we set out to do: we provided paid work for over 20 freelance musicians in an otherwise very dry year, we gave over 100 amateur singers and children the opportunity to participate in a virtual choir project that saw them performing alongside professional musicians, and we created a product that offered thought-provoking comment on the plight of arts and culture over the pandemic. We celebrated live and virtual music-making, by safely gathering professional musicians together to perform and record side-by-side in a shared space, and by using that recording to add a virtual element with our virtual choir to create a unique and powerful short film.

Your support of the initial phase of this project made this happen, and we are so enormously grateful that we were able to go ahead last Autumn with the recording.

So while we pause on this project for the reasons above, I wanted to write to you all to thank you once more, and to encourage you also to continue to support live music where you can – and to attend events that are beginning to happen now, as and when you feel comfortable doing so. If you haven't yet had your first taste of live music since lockdown, do savour that moment of remembering how it feels to share the space with others, to feel the vibrations and to remind yourself of the luxury of that very real experience of simply being in the room.

    Very best wishes,

    Naomi

  • JuneFest Pride Month Drive

An update for SUCCOUR FOR LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY IN COASTAL KENYA.

    Jun 1 2021

In celebration of June (Pride Month 2021) we took our fundraising project to an exciting new level. This past weekend, we had a cook out and karaoke session. The LGBTQ community in Kilifi County - Kenya, showed up enmasse, in style and color to celebrate. It was a colourful time out of chow, booze, games, fun and networking. We raised not so much money but enough to get us started and  come up with the blue print of the how to secure our "Safe Place" going forward.

Without this fundraiser, the LGBTQ community in our own locale may be unable to remain united and supportive of each other for long. We need your help to make this vision become a reality.

We are adding perks to our crowdfund drive to give something back and create tangible souvenirs and beautiful, relatable memories for each and every supporter of this cause.

With your support and assist, we hope to have our doors fully opened by the first week of July, 2021. Cheers.

  • 1-year anniversary & 10,000 meals distributed

An update for Stokes Croft Food Project

    Mar 24 2021

A year ago today we registered our community food project as a CIC... one year on we can proudly say that we've delivered over 10,000 nutritious meals to members of our local community. We couldn't have done it without the support of each one of our project backers, volunteers, project partners and a wide array of other stakeholders that have supported us along the way. For that, we say a huge THANK YOU. We've pivoted from distributing meals to homeless people and vulnerable households directly to opening a pay-what-you-can community cafe (serving out of Jamaica Street Store's building) and offering a weekly soup run to fill the void of emergency food support in Bristol's city centre every Sunday.

In other good news... spring is here and the proclaimed 'end' of the pandemic is within our sights!

We've come a long way in one year, and we've still got a lot planned in year two, and beyond. Primarily we're hoping to expand the operation of the PWYC community cafe to become a financially self-sufficient eat-in community food hub, providing a physical space for our local community members to come together, eat, share stories, connect, re-energise and inspire. To achieve this, we need to raise some more funds. These funds will be used to hire a part-time front-of-house cafe manager, provide training sessions & mentoring programmes for vulnerable volunteers, enable visits from other charities and offer direct signposting to whoever needs it.

If you can, please help us spread the word, contribute to our fundraiser and come down to our PWYC cafe (pay for someone else's meal too).

    Thank you!!

    Much love, SCFP.

  • We've reached £6,575

An update for Fairfield High School essential technology fundraiser

    Feb 5 2021

    We've reached £6,575

The appeal fund total now stands at £6,575 and we'd like to say a big thank you for your help.

School staff are under immense pressure in the current lockdown and are working at full tilt, trying to ensure that no students are left behind. They are all incredibly grateful for the extra tech support which you are helping to fund through this campaign.

"We are bowled over by the INCREDIBLE generosity of the Fairfield Family! Thank you so much to all those who have donated"

"This has an immediate impact on our ability to provide online learning in this period. We are so overwhelmed by the level of support from our community."

"Absolutely blown away by this. Thank you so much."

We now have a more comprehensive assessment of needs at the school and are increasing the appeal target to £25,000 to achieve the goal of digital inclusion for all students.

In addition to this appeal we're also working with DigiLocal who will be repurposing donated laptops and delivering direct to our students. If you do have any used equipment that you can donate please use one of their Drop-Off Points located throughout Bristol.

Online access for all students is now a necessity and not an optional add-on. It's critical that these children do not suffer further and we need to address the problem now, without delay.

Thank you so much for your contribution - and please keep sharing the appeal.

  • DJ Derek: Repaint the Memorial Mural - Important update!

An update for DJ Derek: Repaint the Memorial Mural

    Feb 1 2021

    Hello Amazing Backers!
Thank you so much for your support!
We have some important news for you regarding the DJ Derek mural crowdfunder. Whilst we were happily squirreling away putting together this fundsurfer, unbeknownst to us, friends and family of DJ Derek have been working incredibly hard to put together super exciting plans for a whole raft of tributes to Derek - we don't want to give away too much but we know it will feature a lot of love and another mural!

With such exciting plans in the works we definitely don't want to split the focus of the fundraising so we've decided to combine our efforts. What this means is that this fundsurfer will be suspended with all of the supporters receiving their awards as planned. The money raised will be used to purchase materials for the new mural. We really hope this is agreeable to you but if not, let us know and we can see what we can arrange.

We'll be sure to let you know about the full fundraiser when it launches!

  • We've reached £5,975

An update for Fairfield High School essential technology fundraiser

    Jan 6 2021

    Appeal reaches £5,975

The appeal total has now reached £5,975 and we are well on our way to making a significant dent in the technology shortfall which is affecting many of our students and their families.

The response so far has been fantastic and we will be increasing the appeal target as soon as we have the latest summary of needs from the school IT department.

Online access over the coming weeks and months will be critical for all students who are now at home with no face-to-face contact with their teachers or friend groups.

School staff are incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated so far and are busy allocating the donated funds to the most urgent cases. This includes an initial immediate provision of 24 laptops and 20 dongles with more in the pipeline.

A huge thank you to the school IT team who have worked over the holiday to ready the laptops and continue to do so this week.

"This has an immediate impact on our ability to provide online learning in this period. We are so overwhelmed by the level of support from our community."

"Absolutely blown away by this. Thank you so much."

Well done everyone - and please keep sharing the appeal. With a concentrated effort we may yet achieve the goal of eliminating the digital divide in our school completely.
