Addressing digital inclusion by providing free laptops and internet access essential for education and progression.
Creative Tuition Collective started this project with the mission to address the educational inequality experienced by low income families in partnership with DigiLocal. This issue has been emphasised and worsened through the COVID-19 lockdown yet the laptops distributed by the Department of Education are not sufficient to fill the inequality gap. One in six Bristol children live in poverty, and we estimate around 10,000 children do not have access to their schools online learning right now.
Our initiative started as a dream, a dream to increase the digital inclusion of school students from low socio-economic areas. Many students have experienced poor internet coverage, out of date laptops or having to share laptops with family members stunting their ability to learn. We believe every child should have the opportunity to meet their full potential regardless of circumstance. This means providing basic educational needs such as access to technology and the internet.
Our target audience is children within local primary schools and 16-19year olds, we will divide the laptops we receive or purchase between both. This project was started with Creative Tuition Collective in partnership with DigiLocal due to the constraints on the community highlighted by COVID-19.
We aim to raise £5,000 for schools across Bristol initially in our first wave. Funds will go directly to Creative Tuition Collective who will then purchase second laptops and internet dongles to be disrupted.
