Dear Superheroes
An update for Help Save the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade
Jun 12 2018
...for that is what you are
We are a week into our epic crowdfunding journey, and the #bemmylanterns committee are staggered by the generosity of our community.
I won’t pretend that we’re there yet and it’s all plain sailing, but when we decided to try using Fundsurfer, it was our last-ditch attempt to raise the money after months of hard work trying to secure the funds through other means.
We were feeling very discouraged and genuinely didn’t know if we could pull it off again.
All of us on the committee love the Parade and would move heaven and earth to put on the project that has been embraced by the people of South Bristol for what is getting towards a decade.
Your contribution has helped in two ways. It has helped get to first quarter of that £3,800 we desperately need, and it has reminded us why we do this every year, that the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade is loved and something worth fighting for.
That aside, we still have ¾ of our journey to go so please, please please donate, share and bother anyone and everyone you know to help us get to our target.
If we don’t make £3,800 all will have been for naught.

Update: Songs for Rojava
An update for New Album - Songs For Rojava
Jun 12 2018
Hello there comrades!
I just wanted to post a quick update to thank you all for the continued contributions, and to let you know the total has now reached £170!! Excellent!
There is still a long way to go, but the donations so far will make a massive difference to both the quality of the album, and the distribution options. (Just so you know, if the crowdfunder goes above £400, I can afford to send 100 professional manufactured CDs out to Kurdish solidarity and campaign groups around the UK and Europe. Those organisations can then sell the albums at their fundraisers and events :)
Once again, thanks for your support for this project, and please keep sharing this crowdfunder with your friends and comrades.
I'll post another update in a few days and let you know how it's going.
Thanks again!

From Iran to Bristol: Recipes that have stood the test of time
An update for Help us fund and launch 91 Ways International pop up Peace Cafes!
May 10 2018
Hi Everyone - tickets are selling fast for this event.
We would love you join us as we explore the tastes of Persia with our friends Moh and Christien from KooKoo. Moh will take us on a food journey weaving his way from his homeland to Bristol sharing with us how each dish on the menu connects him to his birthplace.
Iran has a rich culinary heritage and the dishes he has chosen have been enjoyed in their culture for generations. We’ll learn how he is recreating them in Bristol and how Persian cooking with its evocative ingredients has influenced cuisine in other areas of the world
Kookoo are well known for their warmth and hospitality so this is expected to be a truly unique evening. Not only will we expand our culinary knowledge whilst enjoying one of the most sophisticated cuisines in the world, but during the two course buffet we will also have the opportunity to share stories from our heritage and recipes that have stood the test of time in our own culture and families.

An update for A preschool for Down Ampney and surrounding villages - Little Explorers
May 4 2018
Here is the article that the Wilts and Glos Standard wrote about us recently:
Headline - Campaign for pre-school
A CAMPAIGN to raise £23,500 is underway to bring a pre-school back to Down Ampney, more than two years after the village lost its early years provision.
Little Explorers will be run as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and will be a not for profit social enterprise. The plan is for a nature-based pre-school, with the capacity to take 12 children. It will be situated in a portacabin in the grounds of Down Ampney Primary School and could open this autumn.
Karen Powell and Danielle Seatter have been working behind the scenes to turn the dream into a reality.
Volunteer Karen was on the committee of the previous pre-school Muddy Wellies, prior to its closure. "My children are now 6 and 8 so I no longer need the provision," she explained, "but I am really driven to make this happen. I believe it is a rural service that will benefit the whole community. We will also be creating several new jobs in the area."
Danielle, who will manage Little Explorers, gave up her role as chair and manager of Ashton Keynes Preschool. "A lot of services end up disappearing from villages. We would like to restore a pre-school to serve the local community," she said. "At the moment parents have to travel to other towns and villages and not everyone has the ability to do that.
"Chatting to parents it is also clear that some people want childcare that is on route to work and we could provide that."
The campaign has so far raised £5,000 through events and donations, with a further £2,000 of fundraisers planned for the next two months.
A capital grant application for £11,000 is also looking promising, as long as the team can show that all costs are covered. This leaves the project £5,500 short and the team have set up a crowdfunding campaign to help raise the outstanding funds.
"We need to raise money to renovate the building and to provide a contingency fund, so that we do not have to go down the route of needing loans," Danielle explained.
"The sooner we can raise the money the sooner we can open," she added.
