Following the announcement of a snap general election, we need your support to re-elect Bill Esterson as the Labour candidate for Sefton Central.

There will be a snap General Election on June 8th, 2017.

We must fightHome ownership, wages & conditions, the NHS, elderly care and now life expectancy are all going backwards under the Tories.

Dear Friends,

It is a privilege to have served as Member of Parliament for Sefton Central for seven years. I live here with my family, my wife runs a business here, and our children go to school locally. I am proud to call this area home, and to campaign on issues that matter to our community.

Conservative and Lib Dem governments in London have ignored Merseyside. I’m fighting for investment in our city region to support our businesses, create high paid jobs, and defend our NHS. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve the constituents of Sefton Central since 2010 and I hope to be able to continue to do so.

My commitments to the constituents of Sefton Central:

  • Supporting businesses to create high paid jobs
  • Securing investment in skills, roads, rail, energy and broadband
  • Building houses for local people, while defending our greenbelt
  • Protecting our NHS, schools and pensions against Conservative cuts

Our local consituency has a proud history of supporting Labour - the party's values are a natural fit for the hard working, community spirit of our area. We are part of a region that pioneered radical social reforms, revolutionized public service, created world-class businesses and world-changing technologies.

But we cannot take anything for granted this election. Campaigns cost money and in these unpredictable times we must fight harder to protect those things we hold dear, which is why my team and I are asking for any support you can give.

I want to keep standing up for you, locally and in Parliament. I have a record of success for this community, and there’s still so much to fight for.

Bill Esterson MP for Sefton Central

The Tories in London are dismantling our public services at an alarming rate, and this election we have the chance to stop that.

  • 4-month queues for Aintree and Royal patients, £900m Merseyside NHS 'black hole'
  • Conservative cuts to Sefton schools will take £518 from every school child, and cost us 477 teachers
  • If the Conservatives keep cutting social care for our elderly and vulnerable, Merseyside NHS faces a £900M budget black hole

This election is our chance to send a message to the Tories. We have a chance to take back control from an aloof metropolitan elite out of touch with the majority of the country.

But we can't do it alone.

We aim to raise £10000 over the next few weeks. This will go towards covering the necessary costs of campaigning such as direct marketing and social media, telephone banking, events, travel and administration.

We are asking that you pledge whatever you can afford. Every penny raised will go directly to our campaign efforts to get our message across to voters. You can also support us by sharing the link to this page with your friends and family.

Thank you for your support; together we can take back control.

In the last seven years we have achieved a lot together - from housing problems and concerns about local services, to supporting local businesses and charities:

  • The Conservative / Lib Dem Government cuts threatened to axe Thornton Relief Road. Bill campaigned with local residents, and we got the road built
  • Bill secured £3 million to get work started on safety improvements to Switch Island junction, after months of lobbying Conservative Ministers in Parliament
  • Local GP surgeries were brought to their knees by a private health firm. Bill worked with residents’ groups and parish councils, persuading the NHS to cancel the contract
  • Bill worked with residents to oppose Sainsbury’s proposals to take over Crosby village with a superstore and is working with local groups to secure the investment Crosby needs
  • Bill campaigned hard in Westminster over the Conservatives’ and Lib Dems’ senseless closure of Crosby Coastguard Station - and is now actively working to find a community use for the building
  • Bill has been working with residents to keep Freshfield GP surgery open and is working with pharmacists and health commissioners to protect local pharmacies facing real threat of closure due to Conservative health cuts
  • Bill has championed environmental concerns with the Environment Agency and government ministers, opposing fracking and securing swift action on flooding
  • Bill has given his wholehearted support to the recent, successful campaign to oppose a telephone mast at the heart of Hightown
