  • #holidaysforgood - Help Refugees - shelter fundraising - nearly 100 backers!

An update for Help Refugees - #holidaysforgood - shelter campaign

    Apr 10 2016

Thanks again to everyone who has supported the campaign and helped us to get off to an amazing start. We've now raised just under £9,000. That's enough to fund 15 shelters for over 60 people.

Let's all keep pushing and get more people supporting.

We've got 97 backers - let's get to 100 and push on from there. Please help us by sharing with all your contacts.

Backer 97 actually donated £580 (thank you again so much) - the cost of one shelter. Hopefully, we'll get a few more of those!

You've all already made such a difference to those living in Dunkirk, if you can help us to spread the word, we can help achieve even more.

  • #holidaysforgood - Help Refugees - shelter fundraising - FRIDAY UPDATE

An update for Help Refugees - #holidaysforgood - shelter campaign

    Apr 8 2016

Hello, what an amazing first week. We're so very close to raising £8k! Thank you all so much.

If you haven't done so already, please tell all our friends. We need to break the £8k mark...So please share the fundraising page with everyone you know.

If you need any more of a reason WHY it's so important to help, then please watch this brilliant film by Jim Kroft.

These words are from Jim about his film. So true.

"A Kind of Game" - a quotation from my friend, maverick Italian journalist Claudio Gherardini. When I listen to Claudio's words, they sound out of context. They can't be true, can they? But when I walk through Idomeni, the words seem not just fitting, but even somehow too temperate. There are moments in history when certain things seem to become relative. Society starts to make little distinctions, little evaluations how one thing is greater, or more important than another. Before and during the Nazi regime, Jewish people started losing certain rights, certain "allowances". They were somehow separated into a different classification system of human. Of course that can't be happening again, can it? Not us, not our society, not this version of Europe. But then again, are we really in tune with developments? Are we listening? Are we seeing with our own eyes? When I walk through Idomeni, when I watch out to sea from a shore in Lesvos, when I get hate Tweets from White Supremacists on Twitter, I realise that my previous assumptions about our culture, our way of life, really are just that, assumptions - a comfort zone. I believe that to be European really does represent something. The "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" as reflective of not just a high point in our civilisation, but something to be consistently aspired to. The beauty of the idea that some things belong to us all. That we all deserve to be safe, to be happy, to be free from persecution. If we forget someone else's right to those simple things, we forget our own right to them. And then society is in a free fall of relativity. I know that we can't perfect the world. I know that we can't solve the suffering that each of us faces. But what we can do is be conscientious about what makes us US. We can remember that to remember who we are is not just a Right, but a responsibility. In that, the "refugee" isn't something "other" - but is you. Is me. Is us. Thank you Claudio Gherardini for having the courage to call this situation what it is: A Kind of Game.

  • Getting it all started

An update for The Imperial Plan by The Fable

    Apr 8 2016

Morning all :-) A huge thanks to my brother-in-law Clive & Lorraine Tucker over in Boston, USA for donating £50 cash to the project recently, which I pledged on their behalf. Also to my friend and fellow musician Eddie Mole. All 3 listened to me sing some of my songs back in 2014 and their feedback helped encourage me to start the recording process.

With your donation we've already enough to fund 11 isulated, solid-walled and durable shelters for 44 people, who deserve to live in a dignified way.

Please help us to keep this momentum going.

Please tell all your friends, family and share however you can. It will make such a difference to the final total we can raise, if we can push hard in these first few days. Let's smash the £25,000 target.

  • Project extended!

An update for UK festivals team up to raise vital funds for France’s refugee camps

    Apr 5 2016

A massive thank you to all who have donated so far, it’s great to see so many people involved in this! However, now all of our line up announcements are out of the way, we can spread the word even further and bang our drums even louder! So we’ve decided to run this for one more month and hopefully raise even more awareness and funds!

As an additional bonus, there have also been a few other festivals offer their tickets to this fundraiser so hopefully we’ll be able to add more tickets into the mix.

We are aiming to relaunch with all updated details within the week so watch this space…

Thank you again to each and every one of you for donating to this already, this humanitarian crisis really needs a lot more attention than it’s getting in the main media so any help you could do to spread the word on this fundraiser via social media would be hugely appreciated.

    Big love. xx
